Local Author Book Reading and Signing at New Horizons
Want to learn more fascinating histories and mysteries of Woburn? This Friday, November 14th at the New Horizons building on 21 Warren Ave, local author Marie Coady will be having a reading from and signing copies of her new book, "Woburn: Hidden Tales of a Tannery Town". This event is a great opportunity to learn more about local history and share knowledge and ideas with other members of the community. It will be held at 7 PM. and all are welcome to attend. Weekend For Bridget
Dear Pack 502 Friends & Families
Our Sister Scout’s of Woburn have coordinated with Spence Farm for "A Weekend for Bridget"
On December 5th, 6th and 7th, Spence Farm will open its doors for retail sales of Christmas trees, wreaths, roping and decorations. Spence Farm hasn’t sold to the public for several years…they are strictly wholesale…but have agreed to do this for Bridget. Spence Farm will contribute $5 from every tree and $2 from every wreath plus a percentage of decorations sold will go directly to the Bridget Sweeney Fund. read more »

AmeriCorps Opening Day
The Massachusetts Service Alliance (MSA) played host last Thursday to the Annual AmeriCorps Opening Day. The yearly occasion was held at Roxbury's Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. The event featured over 2,000 AmeriCorps members across the state, including individuals serving with Social Capital Inc. in cities such as Dorchester, Lynn, and Woburn. The AmeriCorps members were privy to a special treat in the form of guest speaker, Governor Deval Patrick (pictured above with this year's Social Capital Inc. team). read more »

Woburn Guild of Artist Host Demonstration at New Horizons
This Thursday November 13th, the Woburn Guild of Artists will be presenting a demonstration by Forensic Artist Lt Det. Jerry Scalley from the Woburn Police Department. The meeting and demo on pencil drawing will be held in the Terrace Lounge at New Horizons on 21 Warren Ave. at 7PM. The meetings are open to the public. Admission is free to Guild members, and there is a $3.00 fee for non-members. read more »

The Holiday House Tour is Almost Here!
The time is fast approaching for our Holiday House Tour. We are now in the final planning stages of our event, and our next meeting will be focusing on volunteers for the event, as well as decoration ideas, transportation, and ticket sales/locations. We welcome anyone to our planning meeting to help finalize any decisions that need to be made regarding preparations and logistics for the event. This is also a last minute reminder that our next planning committee meeting will be held on Monday Nov. 10th, at the New Horizons building on 21 Warren Ave. at 7PM. We have also begun to sell tickets to our event, which can be purchased from our website here, or at the North Suburban YMCA and McCue's Florist, both located in Woburn. More locations will be available in the weeks before the event. read more »

Woburn Senior Center Hosts "Indian Lunch"
The Woburn Senior Center, located on 144 School Street, will host an “Indian Lunch” on Friday, November 7th at 11AM. Minuteman Senior Services will sponsor this delicious lunch featuring lentil and vegetable dishes, yogurt, rice, bread and rice pudding (dal, sabji, raita, rice, nan and kheer). The food is catered by Bollywood Café, located in Lexington. A $3 donation goes toward programs put forth by Minuteman Senior Services. Reservations are required. "Traces of the Trade: A Story of the Deep North" Showing at the WMHS
We at SCI are proud to announce that we will be showing the documentary film "Traces of the Trade" at the Woburn Memorial High School Auditorium this Thursday, Nov. 13th. The screening of Traces of the Trade : A Story of the Deep North will take place at 7 pm. The film tells the story of one New England family's role in the slave trade. The powerful film moves viewers to reconsider issues of race. A facilitated discussion with "Traces" family member Dain Perry and his wife Constance will follow our screening. The film is open to the public, and we encourage all to attend and take part in this exciting and important dialogue. read more »
