Special hours will be held at Woburn City Hall on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon ahead of the State Primary. All eligible residents will be able to register to vote, or change their name, address or party. In addition, Woburn voters who will be out of town on election day or who have a physical disability or religious belief that prevents them from voting at the polls on election day will have an opportunity to vote by absentee ballot. The deadline to register to vote in the September 4, 2018 State Primary is August 15, 2018.

“The event is two fold,” said City Clerk William Campbell. “With the election falling on the Tuesday after Labor Day, we want to raise the public’s awareness of the coming election. Also, absentee voting will give students returning to college and voters who will be finishing up their vacations the opportunity to make sure their vote is cast in the election.”

For more information on registering to vote and to check your voting status, go to www.RegisterToVoteMA.com or call the City Clerk’s office at (781) 897-5850.

The Council of Social Concern Food Pantry is asking for donations of perishable and non-perishable food items to help stock the shelves.

Food donations are typically at the lowest point of the year during the summer months. With schools closed, church attendance down, businesses short-staffed and individuals and families in vacation mode, it is understandable that donations would be down. However, this makes it difficult to keep the shelves stocked for those who are struggling and depending on the Food Pantry to help feed their families. Right now, inventory is extremely low and the shelves are almost empty. Please donate today and help fill the shelves!

Baseball Before the Civil War

The Woburn Public Library has an event approaching on July 20 titled Baseball Before the Civil War. Here’s a bit about the program from their website: “Ready to blow up the myths about the founding of America’s national pastime? Legend credits Abner Doubleday as being the “Father of Baseball” but the historical evidence says otherwise. Come hear scholar Aaron Krerowicz tell us why the legend is wrong in this presentation that traces the origins and early development of baseball. Doors open at 6:45.
