Friday, August 6th - It was perfect night for a concert at Horn Pond, the humidity had lifted and it was cool and breezy enough to keep the bugs at bay. The Woburn DPW had worked their magic of cleaning the grassy area in front of the stage, known as Ice House Park, and The McTeggarts, a crowd favorite, played their traditional Irish music for two solid hours, without stopping to take a break. WREN is proud to present Woburn's 8th Annual Native American Pow Wow. This gathering will take place at Berry Meadow (now Altavesta Field), Route 38, N. Woburn, MA. The event takes place from 10 AM to 5 PM, Saturday July 31st and August 1st, with grand entry beginning at noon both days. Come and enjoy the Arts, Crafts, Music & Story Telling by Native Americans representing many tribes from all around the New England Area. You can also join in on the dancing. There will be candy and prizes for the kids during the "Candy Dance". (All Free!)
We're now taking official sign-ups for the first SCI Social Media Workshop on Saturday, Aug. 14. The session will run from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Woburn, 60 Forest Rd. We appreciate them sharing their wifi enabled meeting space with us for this training!

Come celebrate the end of the summer with the Recreation Department! There will be many fun-filled activities and events for children such as a dunk tank, moonwalk, carnival games, face painting, along with great performances.

SCI is looking for you to join our auction committee. Members are needed to solicit a targeted goal of 3 – 5 prizes, valued at $50 or more for our huge, on-line auction/fundraiser benefiting SCI’s programming in 10 Massachusetts locations. This on-line auction will be going “live” in early fall and we could really use your help in trying to gather our targeted 200 prizes!
The Woburn Public Library is sponsoring another fundraiser raffle, this time with a theme of “Enjoy A Day at the Beach …or in Your Own Back Yard.” The prize includes two folding sand chairs, two margarita glasses, a citronella beach bucket, margarita mix, oval party tub, two beach towels, tanning oil, aloe, beach sign, chip and dip platter, tortilla chips, and salsa. Approximate value is $100.
Raffle tickets are one for $2 or three for $5. The winner will be drawn July 30.

The second concert in the 2010 Horn Pond Summer Concert Series took place on Friday, July 9th and was a huge success. The concert featured the Bagboys, a bluegrass band, and drew a crowd of 250. The concert was coordinated by Social Capital Inc. along with the North Suburban YMCA, WREN (Woburn Residents’ Environmental Network), Woburn Arts & Culture and sponsored by Sean P. Coakley of Atlantic Power Cleaning Corp.
