AARP Safe Driving Program

Head to the Woburn Senior Center (144 School St., Woburn) on Monday, May 15 from 10am-3pm for a five-hour AARP workshop on safe driving. This workshop has a course focus on the aging process affecting hearing, eyesight, driving response time and how to recognize and compensate for these conditions. Spence Farm won the free orchard courtesy of Edy’s Fruit Bars and it’s now planted. So what's next? Care and upkeep, of course!

Do you have fruit trees and just want to know how to care and maintain them? Come down to Spence Farm (41 Wyman Street, Woburn) on Saturday, April 13th at 10AM. Woburn's own orchard guru, Jack Russo has agreed to host a workshop at the farm to teach participants the proper care and pruning of fruit trees. 

This workshop is open to all and is free of charge. Please wear work shoes as this will be a hands on workshop. Please also bring gloves and hand pruners. 

Participants will be lifting the dwarf trees to the proper height to help them grow and to keep them dwarf for future generations with an explanation of the process and why!

Need a distraction from this winter weather? Start getting ready for spring by taking one of the many gardening classes available at McCue's Garden Center (200 Cambridge Rd, Woburn) starting on February 17th!

The first class, "Growing Plants from Seeds," will go over how to improve germination rates and grow healthy seedlings indoors for spring planting. This session will cover seed selection, growing mediums, and how to create a micro-climate favorable for plant growth. This class will be held on Sunday, February 17 from 4:30-7:30PM. Cost to attend this class is $25.

 McCue's will also be offering the class "No Maintenance Gardening" on Sunday, March 10 from 9:30AM-12:30PM. Cost to attend the class is $25. This session will be filled with tips and tricks to make yard work seem easy! This session will cover planting, watering, fertilizing and lawn care. 

Beginning on Sunday, March 17, McCue's will be offering eight sessions of the class "The Real Dirt on Gardening." This class will take place every Sunday from 3:30-5:15PM until Sunday, May 5. Cost to attend these sessions is $65. Come learn the basics of soil preparation, plant-selection and propagation, lawn care, landscaping and yard maintenance.

Happy families aren't born, they are made one day at a time. The Council of Social Concern is offering Parenting Education classes for parents of children ages 1 to 5 years. 

Learn about a variety of different topics such as discipline methods, how to prevent tantrums, routines and much more! Through the use of videos, activities and group discussions, the group leader will help parents learn important parenting skills.

The classes will be held at the Council of Social Concern on Tuesday evenings for four consecutive weeks from Feb. 5th to Feb. 26th from 6:00-8:00pm. 

There is no fee for the class, but there will be a $10 refundable registration fee that will be returned after completion of all four classes.

Space is limited and is available on a first come first serve basis. Babysitting will also be available.
